About
Stag Lodge Stables offers horse riding lessons and courses for children and adults of all ages from three upwards. Located right on the edge of London’s Richmond Park, and just a few seconds from Wimbledon Common, Stag Lodge Stables is the perfect destination for anybody interested in horses, riding, horse care or getting fit!
Stag Lodge Stables was founded in 1790 and is home to 70+ horses, ranging from little Shetland ponies up to 16-hand hunters, all of them selected for their temperament and good nature, and suitable for riders of all ages and abilities.
Our proximity to both Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common gives us nearly 4500 acres of green space right on our doorstep in which to exercise the horses, and ride all year round.
We offer a full programme of horse riding lessons and courses for riders of every ability – from novice to expert – so whether you are a total beginner looking to learn, a rusty rider who wants to rekindle the flame or a past master hankering after some green-space adventure, we are here for you – horse riding in London has never been so easy.
Got a horse-mad daughter or son who would love to learn to ride? We offer Pony Week Courses in every school half-term and holiday, along with programmes of lunge lessons, private and group lessons that will take her or him from the basics up to showing, jumping or dressage. Of course, Adults are not forgotten! We have a full range of Adult Riding Courses and options for everyone from beginners to the most advanced.
Stag Lodge Stables is a Pony Club centre, with a full range of carefully planned and approved Pony Club activities, enabling all participants to work towards a structured goal in horse care and stable management.
We operate from two sites, the original Stag Lodge 1 at Robin Hood Gate (which offers stabling for 30+ horses), and Stag Lodge 2, a purpose-built, 40-stable+, multi-arena 11-acre site just half a mile down the road adjacent to the A3 for easy access. Two of the arenas at Stag Lodge 2 are full Olympic size, and we also have a horse-walker, full livery services and can offer a horsebox for hire.
Stag Lodge Stables is an accredited member of the BHS (British Horse Society). This is your guarantee of quality assurance since, as an equestrian centre offering riding lessons, we are regularly inspected to ensure that our services and facilities match or exceed the exacting standards of both organisations.
We have a dedicated team of qualified Instructors and enthusiastic helpers who are here to ensure that every visit to Stag Lodge Stables is special, and that you get the maximum enjoyment and pleasure from the time you spend with us.
