About
Stroll off the beaten track of George Street, and you’ll find a wealth of pubs, cafes and restaurants in Richmond. These narrow, quirky lanes are a foodie’s paradise, with everything from Brazilian street snacks and Argentine empanadas to Italian gelato and Crepes Suzette to tempt your globe-trotting taste buds – but for the days when only the best in traditional British fayre will do, you can’t beat proper fish and chips.
Quality Fish Restaurant on King Street is one of Richmond’s oldest places to eat. When its current owner, Mary, took over in early 2020 she discovered amongst the paperwork a copy of the Fish Trades Gazette from March 18th, 1967 – according to its cover, the ‘Official Organ of the National Federation of Fishmongers’. Amongst adverts for the finest canned cockles and mussels, frozen haddock from Norway and line-caught cod from Grimsby, she found a fantastic article entitled ‘Where Q Stands for Quality’ – all about her very own fish and chip shop – that suggests the restaurant has played an important role in the Richmond hospitality scene since the 1930’s.
