About

Join us with cultural historian and translator Rosamund Bartlett as we take a deep dive into the life and work of Leo Tolstoy!

One of the world's greatest novelists, Tolstoy explored profound questions of life, death, and love which far transcend their setting in 1870s imperial Russia. He is an exciting writer whose works reflect events in his own turbulent life and whose social activism is just as relevant for our times as it was for his contemporaries.

Rosamund Bartlett is a well-known authority on Russian literature, art and music. The author of Tolstoy: A Russian Life, she is also the translator of the Oxford World's Classics edition of Anna Karenina.

'The extraordinary character of the giant is captured better by Bartlett than by any previous biographer ...'

A. N. Wilson, Spectator Books of the Year

The evening will consist of a talk, followed by a QnA and then an opportunity for you to get your copy of Tolstoy: A Russian Life signed by Rosamund Bartlett.'
