About
Seaward ho! Hang the treasure! It’s the glory of the sea that has turned my head.
When the fearsome sea-dog Captain Flint dies suddenly, Jim Hawkins and friends stumble on the key to a fortune. Land-lubbers all their lives, they board the good ship Hispaniola with a crew hand-picked by the trusty cook, Long John Silver. Since 1883, Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island has introduced the Black Spot, treasure maps and talking parrots to generations of children and adults.
This newly commissioned reimagining from the acclaimed Hannah Khalil (RSC, Shakespeare’s Globe) combines the novel with the true stories of pirate queens of the high seas. Performers from the OT Young Company join forces with Carne Associate Director Natasha Rickman and a professional creative team for a swashbuckling adventure filled with sea-shanties and pieces of eight.
“Treasure Island has become a classic because of its essential human appeal: it makes adventurers of us all.” The Guardian
“If there is an art to telling a story, playwright Hannah Khalil possesses it” The Stage on Hakawatis at Shakespeare’s Globe
