About

Sarah Slater is a tour guide at Hampton Court Palace, a guide lecturer and a public speaker. After 23 years in retail banking, Sarah joined Historic Royal Palaces in 2008, as a warder and guide at Hampton Court. She has a particular interest in the human stories of those who have lived and worked within the palace walls.

Sarah’s previous talk to us, in January 2023, “Sex, Secrets, Scandal and Salacious Gossip of the Royal Court 1660 – 1830, was very well received.

We are pleased to invite Sarah Slater back to speak about a possibly less salacious subject! Sarah will talk about her journey into costuming and the levels of authenticity involved with making period costumes to wear as a tour guide. She will also describe how the “perfect” silhouette has changed over time and how women have striven to attain it.
