The 2025 Barnes Music Festival opens with a captivating evening led by the world-renowned Academy of St Martin in the Fields. Founded by Sir Neville Marriner in 1958, the Academy is celebrated for its fresh, brilliant interpretations and its commitment to musical excellence. Known for their immaculate precision and expressive performances, the ensemble is joined by acclaimed international tenor Ed Lyon and rising star horn player, and composer in residence, Ben Goldscheider, promising an unforgettable start to this year’s festival.
The evening begins with Stephen Dodgson’s evocative Essay No. 7, followed by Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings, showcasing the radiant voice of Ed Lyon and the lyrical warmth of Ben Goldscheider’s horn. Mozart’s sparkling Horn Concerto No. 4 in E-flat major will feature Ben Goldscheider, highlighting his virtuosic talent and the beautiful interplay between soloist and orchestra. The concert concludes with Holst’s beloved St Paul’s Suite, concluding this bookended programme. a work filled with energy and rich folk-inspired melodies, perfectly capturing the spirit of community that lies at the heart of the Barnes Music Festival.
