About

Winner of the Drama Desk Award, the Tony and an Oscar for Best Writing for the 1981 film version, Ernest Thompson's ON GOLDEN POND is the love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer. Returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the forty eighth year, they are visited by their estranged daughter Chelsea, her dentist fiancé Bill Ray, and his teenage son Billy. Having planned a trip to Europe with her fiancé, Chelsea hopes to leave the teenager with her parents for the summer. The boy quickly becomes the grandchild they have longed for, as Norman and Billy bond over books and fishing. But upon Chelsea's return, their new friendship merely highlights the already strained relationship between Chelsea and her own father. In the advent of Norman's 80th birthday and his failing health, Ethel encourages Chelsea to mend fences with her father before it's too late.
