Jonty Gentoo and other Tales with Axel Scheffler

About

Children's Christmas Show with Axel Scheffler, illustrator of The Gruffalo!

In support of Habitats & Heritage, the world-famous illustrator Axel Scheffler is hosting two exclusive live events for children and their parents.

These exciting live shows will take place on Saturday 30th November 2024 at St Stephen's Church in Twickenham.

Show 1: 9.30am – 10.10am (followed by a book signing)
Show 2: 12pm – 12.40pm (followed by a book signing)

Kick start the festive season and join the world-famous illustrator Axel Scheffler as he reads his fabulous new creation with author Julia Donaldson "Jonty Gentoo – the Adventures of a Penguin" as well as much-loved "Stick Man" and everyone's favourite "The Gruffalo".

Join a plucky little penguin on the journey of a lifetime. Jonty the little gentoo penguin longs to find his true home at the South Pole. One night, he sneaks out of the zoo and sets off on an amazing adventure, all the way to Antarctica (with an accidental detour to the North Pole!)

Children will be cheering Jonty on as he finally finds his way, in this captivating story of bravery, friendship, and finding your place in the world.

Axel will also be drawing his most famous characters, such as The Gruffalo, Stick Man, Snail and the Whale…so come along and inspire your little ones to love books and open up their world of imagination this Christmas. All drawings will be auctioned after the event.

These one-off events last approximately 40 minutes and will be followed by signing books purchased on the day, making it great opportunity to buy some unique Christmas gifts for children.

Tickets:

Lucia Pekarova, Events Lead at Habitats & Heritage says: "The Gruffalo has captured children's imaginations since it was first published over 25 years ago. We're extremely fortunate Axel is such a committed supporter and active patron of our charity. His events are always big hit with families looking for creative ways to get into the Christmas spirit. While Axel brings the magic of his much-loved characters to our events, Habitats & Heritage will take care of the magic outside.

We encourage everyone to go out and explore the nature and heritage in their local areas. The role this plays in well-being for both the environment and the community cannot be underestimated."

Do your Christmas shopping with us and support your local nature and heritage conservation charity!

There will be plenty of books as well as unique, limited-edition prints and Christmas cards illustrated by Axel available to purchase at the event.

All profits support Habitats & Heritage – Twickenham based charity that offers many opportunities for people to get involved with conservation and heritage projects across the London Boroughs of Richmond; Hounslow; Kingston; Wandsworth; Ealing; and Merton. Read more about our work HERE.

* All children under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult. All accompanying adults must purchase their own ticket, e.g. a parent and child would need two tickets.
