Like all the top players Rafael Nadal learned to play tennis on clay.

About

Come and play tennis on real European Clay Courts. All the top players, like Rafael Nadal, learned to play tennis on clay courts which are ubiquitous in the rest of Europe, but rare in the UK. St. Mary's is one of the few clubs in England which offers this superior surface on which the professionals play. Once you have played on clay you will not want to play on anything else. Everyone is welcome, particularly guests from Fontainebleau & Konstanz. Entrance is free. Racquets & refreshments will be provided on this special anniversary weekend to celebrate the borough of Richmond's European partnerships with Fontainebleau in France & Konstanz in Germany. St. Mary's is twinned with Konstanz Tennis Club, which enjoys an idyllic location on the shores of Lake Constance with the alps as a stunning backdrop. Members of both clubs are automatically members of the other & regular play on each other's courts. Konstanz boasts 10 outdoor clay courts & three indoor artificial clay courts.
