About

Join us for the next in the OT Lunchtime plays series, Blue is the Colour I Cry by Nisha Abdulla, a contemporary Indian writer from Bangalore.

After her home is destroyed by fire, Rida lives on in its shell, surrounded by memories and ghosts from the past. Against the odds, she hopes for justice, and longs to tell her story. Meanwhile, as an ancient water spirit watches on, a wandering soul searches the ocean for his final resting place.

This beautiful play was originally written in 2017 and was one of ten plays longlisted for the Hindu Playwright Award.

Tickets are £15 and include a glass of wine or soft drink.

PLEASE NOTE: This event is a staged reading, without décor.

Nisha Abdulla is a a Bangalore based playwright, performer, director, dramaturg, & educator. She is the Artistic Director of Qabila and co-Founder of OffStream, an artist collective that makes and enables creative projects around anti-caste advocacy.

She also teaches at universities, schools, and community spaces and was recently included in the Rise Beyond The Ceiling Muslim Women Achievers from Karnataka 2024.

This OT tradition of lunchtime plays harks back to when a group of actors adopted a room above the Orange Tree pub, always performing at lunchtime when there was daylight, and placing chairs around the edge of the room to create a space in the round. Audiences have always spoken about the OT tradition of a lunchtime play so highly, that we want to bring them back!
