Barnes Young Musician of the Year Final

About

Since its establishment in 2016, in conjunction with Barnes Music Society, Barnes Young Musician of the Year has witnessed more than 80 aspiring instrumentalists take the stage for the final adjudication. The 2025 adjudication will be from international horn player Ben Goldscheider – Musician in Residence for the 2025 Barnes Music Festival.  With an impressive history of performances in the world’s major concert halls, Ben Goldscheider is in a unique position to advise and support aspiring musicians. He is established as a soloist with leading orchestras and a committed chamber musician championing new music for the horn. Ben holds a professorship at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp and is the Artist in Association at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Leading up to the Final, a series of masterclasses covering piano, strings, woodwind and brass have been organised for students of varying skill levels. These sessions have been conducted by exceptionally talented professional musicians and have been graciously hosted by institutions including St Paul’s School, Harrodian School, St Paul’s Girls’ School, and Ibstock Place School. Some of the most outstanding performers in the masterclasses have advanced to the Final Adjudication.

The winner of Barnes Young Musician of the Year is invited to play at the final concert in the Festival.
