A Night In Sign

About

Come and join us at the OT for a special spring evening of outstanding entertainment.

A BSL-led cabaret event of music, dance, comedy, poetry, spoken word and more, created and performed by some of the UK’s leading and emerging Deaf and Hard of Hearing talent.

A Night in Sign is produced and run by Chris Fonseca, Nadeem Islam and Harry Jardine.

Please note this event is entirely in British Sign Language with written English captions when needed and spoken English interpretation throughout.

Chris met Harry back in 2019 on a 6 month tour and immediately started teaching him BSL. Harry learned fast and at the end of the tour, Chris introduced Harry to Nadeem and the three of them, in a pub in Brixton, started planning. They wanted to create an event that brought Deaf and Hearing people together. An event that bridged the gap between two languages and cultures. An event where everyone was welcome. And thus, A Night in Sign was born!

Harry Jardine is a theatre director and writer dedicated to creating BSL-led work. Last year, he directed Stig of the Dump for Storyhouse, Chester and Follow The Signs – a brand-new piece of BSL-led hip hop gig theatre for the Soho Theatre, which he co-wrote with Chris. Follow The Signs is now back in development, coming back in Autumn 2024.

Chris Fonseca is a dance artist, choreographer and associated director from South London. He has a career spanning over a decade and his work centres around empowering Deaf people by doing what he loves, which is to be creative, inspire and connect. He recently starred in Stormzy’s new music video and Follow The Signs, a new show based on his life story, at the Soho Theatre.

Nadeem Islam is an actor and presenter. Last year, he was in The Father and the Assassin at the National Theatre directed by Indhu Rubasingham, and is also in it’s current reopening this Autumn. He also starred in ITV’s The Bay to great critical acclaim and has worked as BSL consultant on productions at the Shakespeare’s Globe and the West End. Nadeem is the host of these events and is thrilled to be delving into the world of stand-up comedy.
