Wall To Wall Prince

About

A unique celebration of the music of Prince. Drawing on his incredible catalogue of songs this show pays homage to perhaps the most influential artist of his generation.

Featuring David McAlmont and Imaani

With Musical Direction from our Artist in Residence, Janette Mason, whose unique interpretations of Prince, Bowie and many more have been receiving rave reviews. For example…

"The flame-haired Janette Mason, musical director, took ownership of the set. In addition to being a rousing keyboardist, Mason boasts formidable skill as a composer, producer, and arranger– toying with the arrangements and sometimes entirely reinventing them. She has the uncanny knack of undoing a song by its seams and reconceptualising it with brazen originality.

Indeed, Mason was not afraid to take fan-favourites and render them almost unrecognisable. The song I was least looking forward to, the karaoke staple 'Kiss', was a standout performance thanks to Mason's slowed-down jazz arrangement, transporting the audience to the 1950s. Moreover, 'Little Red Corvette' became a country mid-tempo and 'Raspberry Beret' a celebratory reggae joint – renamed 'Guyana Beret'. 'When Doves Cry' was also given the bassline unusually absent from the original recording. As singer David McAlmont described, Mason doesn't arrange songs, she 'de-ranges' them."

David McAlmont

David is possibly one of the greatest singers this country has produced. He has collaborated with everyone from Bond composer David Arnold to Michael Nyman, Paul Weller and most famously with Bernard Butler, producing the hit single Yes. David's music is pure emotion, drawing unique, soulful portraits from his own life and philosophies, all beautifully framed by the finest soul.

Imaani

Gracing stages across the world Imaani's live career is impressive. She has performed on television, in the studio, and live with artists including Nile Rodgers, Chaka Khan, Maceo Parker, Philip Bailey, Jimmy Cliff, UB40, Gloria Gaynor, Incognito, Betty Wright, Omar, Mica Paris, Stephen Marley, Julian Marley, Leon Ware and Aswad.
