John Buckingham– Birds of Heath, Moor and Mountain
British lowland heaths represent one of the world's rarest habitats, with special birds such as Dartford Warbler, Woodlark, Nightjar and Stone Curlew. Similarly, and also heather clad, remote upland moors hold rare breeding Hen Harriers, Short-eared Owls, Black Grouse, divers and waders, while in our high mountains we look for Golden Eagles and Ptarmigan. Crested Tit, Crossbill and Capercaillie are iconic birds of Scotland's stunning Caledonian forests. We will see all of these and more as John takes us on an exciting tour around these special places.
John, a widely published wildlife photographer, is currently involved with ringing and monitoring birds in Kent, while for many years he taught extra-mural courses on birds and ecology for several organisations including four universities as well as being a Trustee at Sandwich Bay Observatory.
Non members are welcome to attend for a £5 donation payable at the event.
