About

There are three Botanical Arts classes every week:

Botanical Painting & Drawing  Beginners & ReturnersTuesday 2 – 4.30 pm
Learning the basics for Botanical Art.  Accurate drawing. Paint application. Colour matching & mixing, Perspective. Brush, pencil and ink techniques. Advice on materials. Perceiving plant life with a new eye.

Botanical Painting & Drawing  Beginners & ReturnersFriday 1.30 – 4 pm
Learning the basics for Botanical Art.  Accurate drawing. Paint application. Colour matching & mixing, Perspective. Brush, pencil and ink techniques. Advice on materials. Perceiving plant life with a new eye.

Botanical Painting & Drawing ExperiencedFriday 10 am – 12.30 pm
Fine detailing. Composition. Perspective. Glazing. Presentation. Advice on exhibiting.

All students will have individual and group tuition. During the course you will be shown how to produce; A good pencil outline of the chosen subject (flowers, leaves, vegetables, berries etc). The correct colour by mixing paints to obtain the correct colour required. Create depth and movement by use of tonal values. An even & precise watercolour wash. An acceptable way of correcting mistakes, it can be done !

 

Materials
The list below is the ultimate, If you already have your own equipment then please bring whatever you have. We will discuss this during the first class.

 

Hot pressed paper (HP) 140lbs 300grms preferably in a block
Da Vinci Kolinsky sable brush series 35 size 4 Expensive but the only brush you will need, an incredible point with a good belly to retain the paint
Eraser, 2H & HB pencils (not for sketching )
Note book or sketchbook
Ruler for margins
Artist Quality Watercolours, basic colours.
SAP GREEN, ULTRAMARINE BLUE WINSOR YELLOW,WINSOR RED, OPERA ROSE, INDIGO,WINSOR VIOLET, all W&N
A few sheets of Kitchen Paper.
