Medals from speaker's collection

About

Whilst the British War medal which was issued to British military personnel is one of the most common medals ever awarded those presented to Belgian and French civilians living in German occupied territory who were 'enrolled' into the British Army are much rarer. This talk will look at how this 'enrollment' came about and then consider a number of the individuals who received the medal for work supplying intelligence on such things as transport movements at great risk to their lives and predating the much better known work of resistance movements in the Second World War. This talk is particularly relevant in Richmond given the number of Belgians who took refuge in the area following the German occupation of their country at the start of the War

Alan Seldon is a long time collector of British medals especially to Belgian & French Agents. He has a really affinity to the history of WW1 being a Friend of Lochnagar and a regular visitor to the Somme battlefields. He is a Fellow of the Royal Numismatic Society and has given a number of talks to Societies, OMRS branches etc.
