Beer Judge For A Night

About

Join us at Brewery Market on 14th November for an evening of blind beer tasting and judging, where you'll sample five unique beers and learn how to evaluate them using five different judging methods from the world of beer competitions.

Whether you're a beer enthusiast, homebrewer, or simply curious about the world of beer, this event is a fantastic way to expand your palate and deepen your appreciation for the craft.

To avoid Eventbrite fees, it's best to pop into the shop to buy your ticket directly.

How It Works:

Welcome Drink: On arrival, you’ll be greeted with a complimentary welcome drink to kick off the evening.

Taste 5 Beers Blind: You’ll taste five different beers, all served blind to ensure unbiased judgements.

Learn 5 Judging Methods: We’ll guide you through five professional beer judging systems:

BJCP (Beer Judge Certification Program) – A globally recognised scoring method focusing on style adherence and technical merit.

CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) – Learn how real ales are judged in the UK, with a focus on drinkability and flavour.

SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers) – Discover how independent and craft brewers are judged on quality, aroma, and appearance.

GACBB (Global Association of Craft Beer Brewers) – Explore innovation and creativity with craft beer-focused judging.

International Beer Challenge (IBC) – See how beers are assessed globally for their taste, design, and packaging.

Interactive Judging: You’ll score each beer using the specific method, learn the criteria behind each system, and discuss your thoughts with fellow participants.

Snacks for Palate Cleansing: A selection of palate-cleansing snacks, including unsalted nuts, plain pretzels, water biscuits, and oyster crackers, will be available throughout the session to enhance your tasting experience.

What You’ll Learn:

How to evaluate a beer’s appearance, aroma, flavour, and mouthfeel.

The differences between judging real ales, craft beers, and international styles.

What makes a beer stand out in competitions.
